Overview
Here is what the students got this last year (97/98) in the way of details
regarding the Zero Tolerance policy for alcohol. Notice it does not
say it applies to off campus activities. It also doesn't say that expulsion
is mandatory. In fact, it implies that expulsion is a possibility not
a certainty. Expulsion is mandatory. Why doesn't it say that????

What's really interesting is to compare both of these to what is in the
infamous policy which the kids don't get.

Here is this year's (98/99) revision. Notice that at least they now say
it applies to off campus school sponsored activities. They apparently
do admit to making a mistake. They still felt it was necessary to expel
these kids though. Notice that they still don't say that expulsion is
mandatory. According to Vice Principal Smith, there has never been an
exception. Over 60 kids have been expelled since this policy was implemented
3 years ago.
Notice also the statement on the third line that says "or the representation
of any substance as a drug." This has been added! Does this enable
our school district to expel kids for lemon drops and garden mushrooms?
Have they learned nothing?
In the 1999-2000 school year they finally implemented a practice that
required parents to review the Handbook and return a signed document
that indicated they had read it. It's about time!
